Well I usually don't know nothing about challenges here but this one I like! Because it shows how art shapes us and how we can tell about a person by getting to know their taste.

Actually in my workshops sometimes I ask this as a form of self exploration. Name your favourite artists and find the common thread.
For me it's always music. Whether it's the soundtrack to a movie (Baz Luhrmans Elvis 👌and Peaky blinders OF COURSE) or books written by musicians.. and therefore I had to make the music bit extra specific and chose my favourite albums.
Funny enough my favourite album #1 is not from my favourite band. Although I love Pulp as well of course.
Extra: my favourite song. 'Lady don't fall backwards.' That's what music does. Helping us not to fall.

Besides the fact that a lot of it is obviously music related, the next step would be to find out what lies underneath these specific musicians and artists whose art I feel attracted to. I know my answers, and I side challenge you to find yours. 😊

In German, the word for yearning is Sehnsucht — literally, 'the addiction of longing.' it names a craving that repeats itself, that is never satisfied by reaching its object.
What is this yearning, really? Where does it come from, and what makes it behave like an addiction — a pull we don't choose and can't quite feed?
This question has become something of a motor for my exploration of art.

I'm also drawn to ask what pulls us so strongly toward the sea. There are logical, psychologically proven explanations — the calming effect of blue, the horizon, the sound of the waves.
But I think there's more to it than that: the feeling of losing oneself in the endless ocean, swimming toward the horizon, just a little bit too far, further than it feels safe, swimming into the dark — that sense of defenselessness before the power of God's creation, at once so attractive and so relentless. This feeling, too, can become addictive — you don't just feel it once and move on; you keep returning to the edge of it, the way yearning itself keeps returning to its own unreachable object.

Nick Cave called this yearning the 'God-shaped hole.' Perhaps what we feel is the memory of Eden — and nothing in this world can fill it, yet we keep searching.

How often do we admire artists for their performance and their outcome. If someone gets famous we say wow — they're really crazy, and we find it cool how they don't care about fitting in, how they just keep being themselves. See Lady Gaga, see David Bowie, see Basquiat or Dalì.
But besides the aspect that this is still a role they perform and we don't know nothing about their inner life, I ask myself: what about all the people that have the same kind of predisposition but did not get famous?
All the little weirdos that feel too much and are unable to fit into a system of "well behaviour". That don't have the capability to mask. Not necessarily just artsy souls — but also introverts, extroverts that are unable to always find the right amount of social interaction.
How quick are we to judge? How much do we acknowledge the misfits? And how often do we ourselves mask?

Btw: Britney Spears.. just think about what she went through. Judgments all along..

So this is post-exhibition internal monologue exhaustion. There is so much going on in my brain, processing the last few days: after a small outdoor exhibition last weekend, I had the pleasure of participating in a group exhibition in Vienna's city center, organized by the lovely people of @hall.of.arts_app!

I also had to finish my paintings first, I had to work, and I literally got dressed for the vernissage in the backseat of my car — you can tell by my hairdo.

There were lots of lovely people. People I didn't expect to show up and loyal friends and family made it special.
I could stop my résumé here, but that's not me. The harlequin stands for everything that lies beneath the shiny surface — so I will add the struggle: the showing up with your whole being, the navigating of social situations, the inevitable 3 am conversation with yourself about all of it.
It all surfaces after such exciting moments.
As our teacher at art therapy school used to warn us: the artist puts all their energy into an exhibition and falls into a hole right afterwards. But it's exactly this kind of energy — the kind that builds up and transforms slowly — that will become the engine for the next pieces. But for now, I need a little time inside my snail shell. 🐌

The exhibition is open until Saturday and you can bid for the paintings on the @hall.of.arts_app! 😇

I keep returning to him in my work because there's something both tragic and defiant about someone who turns their pain into a costume.
Who makes suffering visible by disguising it.

There's beauty and courage in that.
He's the fool who sees clearly. The outcast who makes everyone laugh. The broken one who keeps dancing.

Bildnerische Kunst kommt ja bekanntlich ohne Worte aus. Viele titeln daher ihre Bilder o.T., so bleibt dem Betrachter der Freiraum, eigene Erfahrungen und Stimmungen reinzulegen.

Doch manchmal wollen wir genau den twist, des Künstlers oder der Künstlerin wissen. Was war der Gedanke dahinter, der Titel kann so auch viel beitragen.

In diesem Workshop erforschen wir diese Wechselwirkung zwischen dem was wir sehen und dem was der Verstand in Form von Worten uns einspielt.
Wir entwerfen selbst Bild und Text Werk(e) und schauen auch wieder auf die, die vor uns kamen.

Als Inhalt dienen persönliche Themen, ein Austausch ist möglich, nicht zwingend und immer nur so viel wie jeder Lust hat. 💖

That's what Oscar Wilde says in The Picture of Dorian Gray, and as so many things he said — it's on point.

The motif you choose already reflects what your soul longs for. And the execution, if you let it, reveals something even deeper.
It doesn't even have to be a portrait.
A landscape, a collage... In trying to self-express, in listening inwards, patterns will appear — and it's only up to you to listen and hear what they tell you.

I noticed that I get grumpy at certain views on art — and there is a wide variety of ways art can be perceived: as a hobby (although we'd need to go deeper into what a "hobby" even is), a career, a business, decoration, entertainment, pastime, and so on.

All of these perspectives are valid. But the way they are talked about often remains on a superficial level.

Art can shred you into pieces as well as lift you higher than you could have imagined. Making art is not always fun, and not always satisfying. It shows you your limits — not only in technique, but in resilience, patience, and ego. And yet it also empowers you, speaks to you, opens doors you didn't know existed.

It connects people. In their universal feelings.

Of course it is all of the above. But context matters. How you talk about it matters.

And most of all: how much of yourself you are willing to put into it — because the more you give, the more you receive back of yourself — until you no longer call it a hobby. You call it a necessity.

Never meet your heroes, they say. I disagree.

I'm more than happy I had the chance to see mine again — and to give him the painting I made for him, as soon as I heard he'd be playing in my second home town, Belgrade.

I could say so much right now, but no one reads essay-long captions. So let me just say this: what I admire most is the way Peter holds vulnerability and strength at the same time.
A sense of longing but also groundedness. Sadness and humour, beauty and hope. All the beautiful contradictions, combined in one.

It was a deep personal need to give something back. A small return for all the inspiration and comfort that guides me through my own art.

So thank you to everyone involved for making this possible.

And while I admire all these things in Peter there needs to be mentioned @katiadevidas — the guardian angel. We might argue about "a man's world" — but it's definitely "nothing without a woman"

Also today is the day of St Ephraim of Nea Makri, the patron saint for those struggling with addiction who landed on Peters Fanzine 💖

Art has the power to let you discover your truest self. And when you act in accordance with your truest self, you act with power. When you're connected with who you are, you don't tolerate bull*hit — you know what you need. And you know when it's okay to tolerate certain things, while still staying true to yourself.

Art strengthens your intuition and your connection. So you can discover that being you is actually quite a powerful place to be.

Maybe that’s the reason why they think artists are "difficult " 😁

When I started this painting I was full of doubt — not only about the painting, but about life decisions etc. The more I delved into it, I started noticing what was needed. In the end I wasn't thinking about anything but the painting itself.

I didn't want it to be a shallow beach scene. During the process it became something else — i see it as a David Lynch version of a beach day. See it as you wish. But the sky feels heavy😎

Ich kenne das. Ich habe jahrelang genau so gedacht.
Bis ich gemerkt habe, dass dieses „Warten bis ich fertig bin" eigentlich bedeutet: ich komme zuletzt. Immer.

Kunst hat mir beigebracht, mich selbst ernst zu nehmen.

Und das hat alles verändert — wie ich arbeite, wie ich entscheide, wie ich lebe.

Lately everyone's talking about art and its healing effects on the psyche. Officials brag about museum visits on prescription, institutions rush to jump on the bandwagon — as if they just discovered something new.

But art has always been humanity's most natural need. Think of cave paintings. Think of the tools our ancestors made — not just functional, but following aesthetic. This is not new, it's who we are.

And while I'm genuinely glad the conversation is happening, something pisses me off: as a certified art therapist in Austria, you get ignored by most institutions. There are people who have spent years — some, lifetimes — studying what art does to us. How it moves through the psyche. How it can be used with intention, with care, with knowledge of both the light and the shadow it brings up.

You don't need art therapy to experience art's healing power. But there is a group of people who have spent years — some, lifetimes — exploring exactly what art does to us. The effects on daily consciousness. The constant dialogue with the unconscious. The ups and downs that come with working at that intersection.

They deserve a place in the therapeutic landscape. Not as a footnote to a trending conversation — but as pioneers of that conversation!

So I found out that it might be the case that I got into an uncomfortable situation recently because I opened up about an injustice. I stood up for myself and strangely enough fell victim to cost cutting measures shortly after.

This is exactly the look I have to offer to those people. Who can not take truth, criticism or simply other opinions.

I admit it's not the first time I made enemies because of putting spotlight on things that are wrong! But far too often I did not say anything. I told myself it was not my business, I did not dare to speak up etc.

And I'm posting this here as a reminder to myself to NEVER back off again.

Exploring art means exploring the psychological meaning behind fanship. Why are we drawn to certain artists, artworks, or creative worlds? Is it silly to spend time and thought on these things? Is it a sign of deficits — of foolishness, even — as some might assume?

Should we pay attention only to the people who surround us in real, everyday life?
No — and here's why.

In 2006, a study introduced the Celebrity Attitude Scale, which identifies three stages of fan attachment:

Entertainment-Social — the most harmless stage. You follow someone out of enjoyment and love talking about them with friends.

Intense-Personal — it gets more personal. You see this person as a kindred spirit and find yourself thinking about them often.

Borderline-Pathological — the problematic stage, characterized by compulsive behaviors. This is extremely rare and usually linked to other psychological difficulties.

The vast majority of fans sit comfortably in stages one or two. And that's worth saying out loud: it is healthy to find inspiration and comfort in other people — whether they are fictional, real but unreachable, or somewhere in between. When we connect with others who are drawn to the same energy, we create relationships that resonate on a deeper level.

Humans have always been drawn to idolization. Consider the commandment: "You shall have no other gods before me" — and that's perhaps the crucial point. The moment we place someone on too high a pedestal, we risk not only disappointment (they are, after all, only human) but something older and more philosophical: sin.

The word sin, etymologically, means missing the target. So if admiring someone begins to make you unhappy — because you can't get closer, or because no real person measures up to your idealized Mr. Darcy — you are missing the point. And the point is building your own life.
That is why we are told not to worship idols.

But as long as being a fan means enriching your life through inspiration, comfort, dreams, a sense of belonging, feeling seen, making new friends, or simply feeling at home when you hear someone's voice, being connected to that sense of intuition and resonance— It's something to be envied.
